The Wheel

The Wheel is the meta-structure of fate itself. It is not a metaphor. It is the thing that turns, and when it turns, people happen.

Every character a player spins is, in the fiction, The Wheel choosing them from the infinite field of the possible and making them real. It is older than any god the verses worship, and none of those gods fully understand it, though many claim to.

The Wheel has two faces, and each face pushes its layer in a different direction:

• The bright face turns toward FateBreak, the Ascendant Layer. Here The Wheel whispers of heroes who can defy fate. Prophecy is meaningful; magic is plentiful; hope is a force with teeth.
• The cracked face turns toward Wheel of Ruin, the Decaying Layer. Here The Wheel is broken. Entropy is winning. Every victory is temporary and every hope is haunted.

When the two faces brush against each other, the layers touch. That touch is The Bleed.
