FateBreak: The Ascendant Layer
The verse where fate can still be rewritten
Concept · FateBreak
FateBreak is high fantasy. Bright, brutal, hopeful. The Wheel's bright face turns here, and because of it, fate is a force heroes can defy.
Gods are present here, but not omnipotent, they argue, they bargain, they lose. Prophecy is meaningful; kings are crowned by it and fall to it. Magic is plentiful, and the schools that teach it are old enough to have forgotten why they were founded. Villages burn, yes, but children still grow up on stories of the hero who saved the last one.
The tone is epic. The stakes are real. A character in FateBreak who picks up a sword picks up the implication of a sword, that they are in the story of the person who wields it, and that the story will reach some kind of ending.
Its capital is The Emperor's Reach. Its centre is The Wheelheart. Its weakest points, and its greatest points of contact with the other layer, are its five Bleed sites.
