The Ruin Coin
The cracked mirror of a Fate Token
Artifact · Wheel of Ruin
In Wheel of Ruin, where the cracked face of The Wheel turns, Fate Tokens are rare to the point of myth. What the grimdark layer gets instead is the Ruin Coin, heavy, tarnished, always warm to the touch even in the deepest frost.
Like a Fate Token, a Ruin Coin is a stored spin. Unlike a Fate Token, it does not bend fate toward mercy. It bends fate toward price.
Spend a Ruin Coin and something you wanted will happen. Something you needed will be taken. The trade is never named in advance. Widows have turned back blades and lost names they had forgotten they loved. Warlords have broken sieges and woken up younger brothers.
Minting. The Ruin Coin does not shed from The Wheel, it is pressed, by the cracked face itself, in the long silence between heartbeats. Each one carries the faint outline of a broken wheel on one side and an eye on the other. The eye is always closed.
Folklore. "The Coin opens its eye when it is spent." No-one has reported seeing an open eye, but every soul that has spent a Coin refuses to hold another.
"It will take what you can afford. That is the only mercy in it."
